Capturing the Sweetest Moments
Your baby will only be this tiny once! Newborn photography is the perfect way to preserve those first precious days when they’re at their tiniest, sleepiest, and most delicate. These images become cherished keepsakes that you and your family will treasure forever.
When to Schedule Your Newborn Session
The best time to photograph a newborn is within the first 5-14 days after birth. During this time, babies are still very sleepy, naturally curling up into those adorable poses. If you wait too long, they become more alert and harder to pose. That’s why it’s best to book your newborn session during pregnancy to ensure a spot on my schedule!
Why Newborn Photography Costs More & Takes Longer
Newborn sessions typically cost more than standard portraits due to the additional time, specialized care, and skill required to safely and beautifully capture your baby. These sessions are longer because newborns need extra attention throughout the shoot. A typical newborn session lasts 2-3 hours, which allows for:
✔ Feeding & Comforting: Babies may need to stop for feeding or soothing, especially during their first few weeks. These breaks are essential for keeping your little one calm and happy throughout the session.
✔ Gentle Posing & Settling: Newborns require careful and gentle handling to be posed in those adorable, curled-up positions. This process can take time as babies need to be settled into each pose comfortably.
✔ Ensuring Baby’s Comfort & Safety: Keeping your baby safe and comfortable is my top priority. This means adjusting lighting, room temperature, and providing the right props and support during the session.
✔ Multiple Setup Changes: To create a variety of beautiful images, we often change wraps, props, and backgrounds throughout the session, which can take extra time.
How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session
Preparation is key to a smooth and successful newborn session. Here are a few tips to help you get ready:
- Schedule Ahead of Time: As mentioned, it’s best to book your session during pregnancy to secure your spot.
- Arrive Early & Relax: Try to arrive 15-20 minutes before your session to get settled in. A calm, relaxed environment will help both you and your baby.
- Feeding Before the Session: If possible, feed your baby right before the session. A full, content baby is more likely to sleep through the session, making posing easier.
- Bring Extra Bottles & Diapers: Pack extra bottles, diapers, and wipes just in case. We want to make sure your baby stays happy and comfortable throughout the shoot.
- Dress Your Baby in Easy-to-Remove Clothing: Choose loose clothing that is easy to remove without disturbing your baby. Avoid outfits with tight elastic or buttons that could leave marks on their delicate skin.
- Prepare for a Longer Session: Newborn sessions take time, so be ready for a relaxed pace. Bring snacks, water, or anything else that will help you stay comfortable during the session.
- Let Me Handle the Rest: I provide all the props, wraps, blankets, and backdrops, so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything specific for the photos.
